Here I am reminiscing about this exact day two years ago. It was the first day of school, my first day at a university in a new town and a new state. I was pedaling around on my bike throughout downtown. I stopped at The Local Store to pick up the new album by Volcano Choir and to my surprise they were handing out free cupcakes with drawn on volcanoes. It was so sweet. I remember going to the park right after to stop and take a picture and eat it before I was going to head to campus.
I remember sitting in the Davies center next to the fireplace typing up a blog post on my laptop on how the year was going to be awesome and memorable. I was so stoked to start at a new school and a new place with new dreams in my brain waiting to happen. Then a few minutes later a sweet lady made some conversation with me and invited me to a Bible talk discussion. In my mind, I didn't hesitate at all, and said yes right away. I wanted friends, new adventures, and this was new to me. The Bible was something I grew up around, but never bothered to dig deep into. Since then I'm amazed and astonished at how wonderful and necessary it is to read & to live by it. I'm so grateful for this day two years ago because a simple conversation and a simple invitation lead me to a true & devoted relationship with God and a new life full of new dreams.
I think about the friendships I've made since then, the places I've gone to, the new dreams I have, and how thankful I am for all of it. I look out my window, see buildings downtown, the sunshine reflecting off car doors, and hear the birds chirp as a quietly listen to music in my dining room. It's lovely.
As I reminisce I think about how God truly has the right timing and placing- He sets it up so we can seek Him wholeheartedly. He puts several opportunities in our path whether or not we see them, which is encouraging to me. Again I'm so thankful for God and how he works, how he creates things perfectly, puts the right people in our lives, and has far greater plans than we can ever imagine.
As this new school year starts, I'm excited to see what opportunities God puts in my path- what dreams to dream, and who I'm going to meet. I'm excited for new friendships, new adventures to go on, even places I haven't discovered in my own town. I'm excited to learn new things in school & to be around people with the same passions as me. Here comes another fall season, where everything gets colder, but things feel like they are coming to life- especially with the wind carrying the leaves and spinning up and down the streets, and new people to meet to make new relationships. I'm pumped and excited for this new season- a season of growth, art, apples from the orchard, hot chai tea lattes, and learning.
"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. " Jeremiah 29:11-13 <3
